Ward Claims Frazier Tribute Late Model Feature
DeGraff OH: (8/6): Shady Bowl Speedway held a big night of racing with the running of the Curt Frazier Tribute race. The well known Richmond Gear company added certificates to the winner of the street stock and pure stock features. Ed Tapp and Company (Bellefontaine), Schaffers Body Shop (Kenton), Cars Plus (Kenton) and Whitakers Scrap Yard (Kenton) added cash bonuses to the modifieds, tuners, street stocks and compact classes.
The Curt Frazier Tribute late model feature saw Buddy Townsend lead the first eight laps before losing the lead to Urbana resident Mike Ward. Ward set a torrid pace in his Daves Truck and Auto Body sponsored Chevy. Ward went on to win his third feature of the season and second in two weeks. Columbus driver Jacob Muncy set quick time and caught Ward in the waning laps but had to settle for second. Townsend was third, with Jim Lewis Jr fourth and Brian Reeser fifth. Muncy won the dash, with heat checkers going to Russ Bobb and Jesse Gade.
In modified racing, Kettering’ s Mike Carroll led all 30 laps in his K.E.G. backed openwheeler to win his third feature of the season. Chris Parker had a strong run as he finished second, with Daniel McPherson third, Brad Yelton fourth and Herb Newman fifth. Brian Brandyberry won the dash, with the heat win going to Yelton. Logan McPherson was fast qualifier.
Sidney’s Rodney Roush won the 20 lap feature as he led all laps in his M&M Head Service Chevelle. The win was the fourth of the season for Roush and his second in the last two races. Nic Burnside, Josh Longstreth, Mike South and Chris Abbott rounded out the top five. Jim Lewis Jr won the dash, with Tim Hines and Richard Roush posting heat wins. Shawn Stansell was fast qualifier.
The 20 lap compact feature was won by Columbus driver Jim McElfresh. McElfresh is sponsored by Hot Rods Auto. Larry Adams was a close second, with Zach Doolin third, Josh Foltz fourth and Joel Neace fifth. Adams and Chris Lucas were winners of the dash and heat. McElfresh set fast in time trials.
Rob Bryant of Sidney continued his hot streak, as he set fast time and won the feature. Bryants car is sponsored by McIntire Painting. The win was the fifth of the season for Bryant. Jason Purtee was second, with Lane Crabtree third, John Eastman fourth and Jeff Binkley fifth.
Purtee carried the checker for the dash.
Austin Eaton had his best night of racing, as the Belle Center driver set fast time and won the twenty lap feature . Terry Eaton Jr, Matt Jackson, Jacob Muncy and Bill Honious finished second thru fifth. Jackson was the dash winner.
Steven Greene won the spectator drag race over John Gendrow.
This Saturday (8/13) will be “Kids Night There will be big wheel races, penny scramble and free back packs with school items packed inside. In addition Main Event Wrestling will be on hand to entertain the youngsters. It will also be the last points race of the season. The late models, modifieds, street stocks, pure stocks, tuners, compacts and spectator drag races are all on the schedule. Racing is set to start at 7.
